Trauma-informed practice at Whole Warrior Solutions

Why safety, choice, trust, collaboration and strengths shape every Whole Warrior Solutions service.

A way of working across every service

Trauma-informed practice is not a separate program or a label applied only to counselling. It shapes how Whole Warrior Solutions communicates, plans, sets boundaries and works alongside people across counselling, Psychosocial Recovery Coaching, capacity-building support, Employment Therapy, EAP, workshops and brokered Redress-related referrals.

It recognises that trauma can affect trust, safety, communication, memory, relationships and participation. It does not assume that every person has experienced trauma or require anyone to disclose a trauma history.

Principles that guide the work

  • Emotional and physical safety, including attention to accessibility and the environment
  • Trust and transparency about scope, privacy, fees, roles and limits
  • Choice and consent that are checked throughout the work
  • Collaboration rather than doing things to or for the person without involvement
  • Strengths, skills and lived knowledge as foundations for recovery
  • Respect for culture, identity, disability, neurodiversity, relationships and individual preferences

Reducing unnecessary retelling

A person does not need to tell every detail of a painful experience to receive respectful support. Where a trauma history is relevant, the person can choose what to share, when to pause and whether the work focuses on present impacts, practical needs or future goals.

With consent, a warm referral or concise handover can reduce repeated explanations. Information should be proportionate to the service and shared only with people who need it.

Clear boundaries are part of safety

Trauma-informed does not mean that every request can be accepted or that outcomes can be promised. Whole Warrior Solutions works within professional scope, agreed service arrangements and availability. When another service is more suitable, this should be explained honestly and respectfully.

The approach is people-first and future-aware: making room for what has happened without defining a person by it, and supporting goals that matter to them now.
