Recovery
What does a psychosocial recovery coach do?
A current, practical guide to recovery coaching, choice and everyday capacity building for people with psychosocial disability.
Recovery is personal
Psychosocial recovery is not a straight line and it does not mean that every difficulty disappears. It is about building a meaningful life, strengthening hope and identity, and having greater choice over the supports that help.
A recovery coach works alongside—not above—the participant. The relationship should be collaborative, strengths-based and directed by the participant’s goals and preferences.
What support can include
- Understanding and using an NDIS plan
- Building confidence, routines and practical strategies
- Connecting with community, services and natural supports
- Preparing for appointments and communicating preferences
- Working through barriers while keeping the participant in control
Choosing a recovery coach
Ask about lived and professional experience, communication style, boundaries, cultural safety and how the coach supports informed choice. A good fit should feel respectful and clear.
Whole Warrior Solutions provides recovery-oriented support for eligible self-managed and plan-managed participants, subject to suitability and an agreed service arrangement. Funding and availability are never guaranteed by an article or enquiry.
